Lum Button"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Check out Kevin Carson&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/c4ss.org\/content\/44466\">Anarchists Without Adjectives Study chapter on Dyer Lum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Dyer Daniel Lum<\/b><sup id=\"cite_ref-johnpoll_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> (February 15, 1839 \u2013 April 6, 1893)\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-obit_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>was an American\u00a0<a title=\"Anarchism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anarchism\">anarchist<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Labor activism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labor_activism\">labor activist<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Poet\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Poet\">poet<\/a>. <sup id=\"cite_ref-shuster_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>A leading\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Syndicalist\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Syndicalist\">syndicalist<\/a>\u00a0and a prominent\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Left-wing\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Left-wing\">left-wing<\/a>\u00a0<a title=\"Intellectual\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Intellectual\">intellectual<\/a>\u00a0of the 1880s,<sup id=\"cite_ref-johnpoll_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0Lum is best remembered as the lover and mentor of early\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Anarcha-feminist\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anarcha-feminist\">anarcha-feminist<\/a>\u00a0<a title=\"Voltairine de Cleyre\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voltairine_de_Cleyre\">Voltairine de Cleyre<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-infoshop_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Lum was a prolific writer who authored a number of key anarchist texts and contributed to publications including\u00a0<i><a title=\"Mother Earth (journal)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mother_Earth_(journal)\">Mother Earth<\/a><\/i>,\u00a0<i>Twentieth Century<\/i>,\u00a0<i><a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Liberty (1881-1908)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberty_(1881-1908)\">Liberty<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(<a title=\"Benjamin Tucker\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Benjamin_Tucker\">Benjamin Tucker<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0<a title=\"Individualist anarchism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Individualist_anarchism\">individualist anarchist<\/a>\u00a0journal),\u00a0<i>The Alarm<\/i>\u00a0(the journal of the\u00a0<a title=\"International Working People's Association\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Working_People%27s_Association\">International Working People&#8217;s Association<\/a>) and\u00a0<i>The Open Court<\/i>, among others. Following the arrest of\u00a0<a title=\"Albert Parsons\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albert_Parsons\">Albert Parsons<\/a>, Lum edited\u00a0<i>The Alarm<\/i>\u00a0from 1892 to 1893.<sup id=\"cite_ref-selected_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Traditionally portrayed as a &#8220;genteel, theoretical anarchist&#8221;, Lum has recently been recast by the scholarship of\u00a0<a title=\"Paul Avrich\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Avrich\">Paul Avrich<\/a>\u00a0as an &#8220;uncompromising rebel thirsty for violence and\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Martyrdom\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martyrdom\">martyrdom<\/a>&#8221; in the light of his involvement in the\u00a0<a title=\"Haymarket affair\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Haymarket_affair\">Haymarket affair<\/a> in 1886.
